U.S. Olympic boxer Terrell Gausha is vowing never to wear the American colors of red, white and blue again as a sign of his disgust stemming from the George Zimmerman verdict.
“How can I wear my stars and stripes proudly in a country where they make a big deal out of Mike Vick fighting dogs, but not a young, innocent black male’s life,” Gausha, who fought in the 2012 London Summer Games told TMZ.
Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watchman, shot and killed 17-year-old unarmed Florida teen, Trayvon Martin, in February of 2012.
A six woman jury, five of them Caucasians, found him not guilty of both second-degree murder and manslaughter charges late last week.
Gausha started wearing the American flag on his boxing trunks after his Olympic run, but told TMZ that practice will surely end now, primarily based on his disdaint for the verdict
"When I represented my country in the Olympics I was proud to wear my flag,” he said. “I even wore it on my head on the way to the ring. What happened this weekend was a slap in the face."
Gausha added “he refuses to rep a nation with so much racism and hatred."
