This Sunday, it's the most extreme night of the year for the WWE as it presents Extreme Rules live from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.

WWE SmackDown Spoilers For Thursday, Reigns, Ambrose Team Up

Headlining the show will be a Steel Cage match between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Randy Orton with the RKO banned from use and Kane guarding the gate.

Before "The Viper" and "The Architect" go head-to-head, it's time to reflect on some of the best moments in the history of the event.

5 Potential Feuds For WWE Superstar Bray Wyatt

Since its inception in 2009, Extreme Rules has had a plethora of memorable matches and moments and before the seventh annual installment of the event, here's a look at our top five matches from it:

Honorable Mentions: Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho (2009), Sheamus vs. Triple H (2010), Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio (2011) and Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar (2013).

5) Chris Jericho vs. Edge in a Steel Cage Match (2010): Former partners in the "Rated 'R' Superstar" and "Y2J" had a memorable feud heading into their World Championship match at WrestleMania XXVI. After Jericho thwarted off Edge, the Toronto native laid him out on the next SmackDown, enabling Jack Swagger to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and become the new champion. A Steel Cage match was then signed between the two for Extreme Rules and it was a fantastic bout that saw many false finishes and a chair brought into things. In the end, Edge survived two Code Breakers and then hit a Spear on Jericho to pin him and win the match.

4) The Shield vs. Evolution in a Six-man Tag Match (2014): After The Shield (Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose) turned on Triple H, he reunited Evolution with Randy Orton and Batista, setting up a series of great bouts between the two factions. At Extreme Rules last year, the six Superstars engaged in a quick-paced match that saw each man get their own offensive outbursts throughout it. The action spilled into the crowd and on the arena floor as the fans were locked into every minute of it. The finish saw Roman Reigns hit a Superman Punch and spear on Batista, pinning "The Animal" to win the bout for his side.

3) John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar in an Extreme Rules Match (2012): Following WrestleMania XXVIII, the world was stunned the next night on RAW when "The Beast" made his first appearance in a WWE ring since 2004 and took out the "Cenation" leader. An Extreme Rules Match was then signed between the two, setting up a colossal main event. Lesnar decimated Cena from the outset, bloodying the face of the franchise early and nearly breaking him in half with an F-5. Cena was able to mount a comeback and used a metal chain to bust open "The Beast" in his first WWE bout in eight years. The ending saw Cena hit Lesnar with a huge Attitude Adjustment onto the steel steps, pinning him to emerge victorious.

2) Randy Orton vs. CM Punk in a Last Man Standing Match (2011): In arguably the best opening match in the history of the event, "The Viper" battled "The Best in the World" in a Last Man Standing Match with the New Nexus banned from ringside per the orders of the anonymous RAW general manager. The two engaged in a brutal war with kendo sticks, the steel steps and steel chairs utilized throughout. Orton was able to answer the referee's count after a GTS and then again following another GTS on the steel steps. Punk, meanwhile, was able to answer the call after a standard RKO and an RKO through an announce table. The bout ended when Punk was caught by Orton with one final RKO out of nowhere off the top rope, unable to answer the 10 count.

1) Edge vs. Jeff Hardy in a Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship (2009): Two Superstars with a history of grueling Ladder Matches went head-to-head at Extreme Rules 2009. Edge and Hardy, who had clashed in a series of memorable tag team Ladder Matches in the past, had a great war during the event with the most notable spot seeing both of them come crashing through a ladder that was resting against the barricade. After a crazy back-and-forth match with both men using the ladder as a weapon, Hardy climbed up and grabbed the belt to win the bout. The contest was made even better by the shocking twist ending, which saw CM Punk come out and cash in his Money in the Bank contract that he won at WrestleMania XXV. Punk hit Hardy with the GTS two straight times, pinning him and picking up his second World Heavyweight Championship.

There have been plenty of historic moments in Extreme Rules lore and the WWE plans to add to them Sunday when the event emanates live from the Allstate Arena in Illinois.
