The New York Knicks are trying to deepen their roster, and two names familiar to them are popping up quite often: Metta World Peace and Nate Robinson.
Metta World Peace was amnestied late last week by the Los Angeles Lakers in an attempt to shave large numbers off of their heavy tax obligations, and now the Knicks are looking into adding the hometown wing to their roster for depth.
World Peace hails from Queens, New York, and starred in college for St. John's. World Peace made his bones in the NBA as a top-shelf wing defender, and while he is no longer that caliber of player, he may add grit and toughness to a Knicks' defense that lacked teeth for much of the season.
He also could provide flexibility for Knicks' coach Mike Woodson when he plays Carmelo Anthony as a power forward in New York's smaller lineups. The Los Angeles Clippers are believed to be players for World Peace as well, but Yahoo! has reported the Knicks to be the front-runners after two days of meetings in Las Vegas.
World Peace is said to be considering playing in China next season too, per Yahoo! Sports. "I want to do something unique and fun. China has over a billion people. It's fun. I want to be adventurous. I've been thinking about it."
Another player on the Knicks' radar is an old friend, the pint-sized ex-NBA Dunk Contest champ Nate Robinson. Robinson raised his profile last season beyond the perception of him as a superb dunker by taking over the Chicago Bulls' offense for long stretches in the absence of Derrick Rose.
During the postseason, Robinson was the primary option without Rose, and after Luol Deng became ill and missed time. Robinson scored 13.1 points per game and averaged 4.4 assists. He could provide the Knicks with depth at point guard; as of now Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni represent the only rotation-caliber players at the position.
