Tim Tebow signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Johnny Manziel was on time for the Cleveland Browns offseason program and someone in Buffalo actually believes Matt Cassel should be under center as a starting quarterback.

DeVante Parker Won't Fall to Miami at No. 14

That's how dire the situation is for just a few of the teams in the National Football League...and that's exactly why the Miami Dolphins should think long-term with Ryan Tannehill.

In two short weeks, the Dolphins must decide whether to exercise the team's fifth-year option for Tannehill. The option is said to be worth $15 million for the 2016 season, a small price to pay to avoid having the likes of Geno Smith running your offense.

3 Options Miami Should Consider for No. 14 Pick

No, he doesn't have a playoff victory and no, he hasn't finished with a winning record, but Tannehill showed improvement across the board in 2014.

His completion percentage (66.4), touchdowns (27), interceptions (12), yards per attempt (6.9) and overall QBR (59.09) were all career highs last season, proving he's finally turned the corner.

The Dolphins arrived at the Doctors Hospital Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University to begin the start of the offseason program on Monday. Fresh off a career year, the 26-year-old admitted the attitude around the team has improved.

"It's great," he said (via the team's official website). "There's always a buzz each year. You come in for the first time, see all the new faces that haven't been around, guys we brought in. There's definitely a buzz in the building and I think everyone is excited to be here."

The excitement should stem from having a competent NFL QB in the locker room, something the New York Jets can attest to. If the Dolphins hope to build on that excitement, not only should Tannehill's option be picked up, it should be coupled with a long-term deal as well.
