Scottie Pippen is a Chicago Bulls legend and Top 50 player in NBA history, but these days he is about to become a defendant in a $4 million lawsuit against him being filed by 49-year-old Camran Shafighi, who claims he was assaulted by Pippen. It has been reported that he would be facing a lawsuit, but now specifics of the case have leaked.
Shafighi says he approached the former Bulls star outside of a California restaurant, Nobu, seeking an autograph for his girlfriend's pre-teen son, but instead was spit on and received a brutal beating that left him bloodied with a broken tooth, swollen mouth and head injuries.
Shafighi claims the beating he took, which left him unconscious as Pippen left the scene, was a ''brutal and unjustified physical attack'' that included spit in the face, a shove, and a punch that sent Shafighi to the ground." The lawsuit goes on to say ''At no time did or could Mr. Shafighi physically provoke or fight back, as he was knocked unconscious with the first blow."
Pippen was contacted by police about the situation and voluntarily went to the police station to give his version of events. Pippen alleges that Shafighi spit on him, and used racial slurs against him as he left Nobu with his four-year-old daughter. Several witnesses to the fight described Shafighi as intoxicated, and backed Pippen's account.
"He came in and was very cooperative and answered a lot of questions," said L.A. County Sheriff's Department Capt. Pat Davoren. "Our detectives have to do further investigation, mainly talking to other witnesses."
Pippen is a six-time NBA champion, seven-time All-Star, and seven-time winner of the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year Award. For his career Pippen averaged 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists, two steals and 0.8 blocks a game.
