Marshall Henderson, Ole Miss Star, Found With Cocaine and Marijuana, Suspended By Team

The University of Mississippi basketball program has indefinitely suspended high-scoring guard Marshall Henderson after Oxford police allegedly found both cocaine and marijuana in his vehicle.

According to the Wall Street Journal, cops pulled Henderson over on May 4th for suspicion of speeding and a search of his car found small amounts of both drugs.

In announcing he had been suspended on Wednesday, school officials refrained from providing a reason. Henderson was cited for no proof of liability insurance and given a court date of May 15. The Journal noted it’s unclear how the citation was adjudicated.

No other charges were formally filed, and Mark Hodges, one of the arresting officers, told The Journal the district attorney’s office would not prosecute the case if the cocaine amount found registered at less than one-tenth of a gram.

Henderson averaged 20.1 points per game last season and led the Rebels to a Southeastern Conference tournament title, the school’s first in more than three decades.

His demonstrative taunts and celebrations toward opposing crowds were the talk of the NCAA tournament and on June 26, the NCAA formally reprimanded him for what it deemed an “inappropriate gesture” directed toward LaSalle fans during the tournament.

In a statement earlier this week, Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said, "Since the season ended, we have talked a lot about Marshall taking a greater leadership role with our team. With that comes greater responsibility, and he must do a better job of living up to the high standard we expect from him and he desires from himself."
