Samardzija faces Detroit for the first time in his career and he's had a couple of rough outings early on in his White Sox tenure. Samardzija allowed four earned runs in seven innings last time out against the Minnesota Twins while not allowing a walk and striking out six.

Price, meanwhile, has gone 14.1 innings this season without allowing a run and he enters the contest red hot.

The Tigers enter the series after taking two of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates, including a 1-0 series-ending victory on Wednesday. Detroit center fielder Rajai Davis launched his first homer of the season, a solo shot, in the sixth inning for the lone run of the game.

The White Sox, meanwhile, continue their tour around the AL Central to start the season and come in off of a 4-2 loss to the Indians on Wednesday. Shortstop Alexei Ramirez drove in his fifth run of the campaign in the loss.

Two members of Detroit rank in the top five in batting average in the MLB as shortstop Jose Iglesias (.481) and Miguel Cabrera (.432) rank third and fifth in the league respectively. The Tigers also lead the AL with 13 stolen bases this season.

The White Sox and Tigers open up a three-game set when they take the field this afternoon for matinee action live from Comerica Park in Detroit.
