Sergio Ramos is under contract with Real Madrid through 2017, but the 29-year-old is seeking a new deal and a commitment from club president Florentino Perez. Ramos, who scored the stoppage-time equalizer in last year's Champions League final, is seeking a deal worth €11 million a season.
Perez prefers not to go to above €8 million.
There is, however, one obstacle that will force the club to open its wallet: A staunch competitor. According to Sport, an intermediary on behalf of Bayern Munich called Ramos' brother, Rene Ramos, during the international break.
Per the report, Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is in search of a new central defender and Ramos fits that mold.
Just don't expect any transfer to come to fruition in 2015.
Length of Contract
As previously stated, Ramos' contract has not expired and will run until 2017. Even if the two parties fail to come to a new agreement, there is no window for Ramos to waltz to Munich.
Romanticism
Ramos wants to continue his career at Real Madrid, but don't take our word for it, take that of his brother (via the Express). "Sergio is very happy at Real Madrid and anything that gets reported now is just rumors."
Need
Make no mistake about it, Real Madrid cannot afford to lose Ramos. With the center-back out due to injury (hamstring), Madrid's 2014 form slowly dissipated, culminating in a 4-3 loss to Schalke 04 at home in Champions League. Since his return, a more stout and solidified backline has remerged.
At €11 million, Ramos is asking for a king's ransom. But eventually Perez and Madrid will realize it's one well worth paying.
