Kobe Bryant Happy For Dwight Howard, Says Everybody Is Cut Differently

Kobe Bryant insists he’s elated for Dwight Howard and concedes” everybody is cut differently” in terms of being able to handle the pressure of playing in such a major market as Los Angeles.

Bryant justified his immediate response to unfollow Howard on Twitter in the aftermath of his announcement he was heading to Houston by telling ESPN “that just how I am. I have a hard time following people that want to beat us and stuff.”

As for reports Howard did now want him as a teammate beyond the 2013-14 season, when his contract expires, or, at the very least, wanted the Lakers to sign him for less money in an unofficial “passing of the torch” to the 27-year-old All-Star center, Bryant said “I’m not taking a huge pay cut.”

Bryant also told ESPN “it’s important for free agents to make decisions that they feel is best for them. You have to make decisions best for your family and best for your brand, whatever it may be. So, it is what it is."

In that, the 35-year-old Hall of Fame bound guard concedes the Lakers’ way may be quite different than most. “The way we’ve gone about it with this organization and the leaders that we’ve had--- myself, Magic, Kareem--- we’ve done it a different way,” he said.

Bryant added he’s recuperating well from the Achilles tendon surgery he underwent in April. “It’s progressing faster than everybody expected,” he told ESPN. “I should be able to be more active in the middle of August, which is like four months after the surgery.”
