The Dallas spent most of Wednesday meeting with free agent center Andrew Bynum and trying to decide if they will formally offer the oft-injured star center a contract offer.
Accompanied by his agent David Lee, Bynum spent the day chatting with Mavs owner Mark Cuban, president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson and the team’s medical staff, according to ESPN.
“They had a visit with our doctors and we had lunch,” Nelson told ESPN. "Beyond that, the negotiations are ongoing."
Dallas is the third team to meet with the 25-year-old Bynum, joining Atlanta and Cleveland, the latter of which has formally extended an incentive-laden, two-year, $24 million offer that includes a team option for the final season. Bynum sat out the entire 2012-13 season with Philadelphia nursing a lingering knee injury.
"At this point, we're having a medical discussion," Nelson told ESPN. "We'll have an opportunity to again get with him and his agent and better understand the risks involved and make a good decision for our franchise. We talk to his agent all the time. We're in the process of gathering information."
Bynum averaged 18.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011-12. The Mavs turned their attention to him after losing out to Houston in the Dwight Howard free agent sweepstakes.
