Lakers To Amnesty Metta World Peace: Twitter Reaction [PHOTOS], Knicks Interested In Adding Former Defensive Player Of The Year

The Los Angeles Lakers are having some salary cap issues, and they plan to help alleviate it by using their amnesty provision on small forward Metta World Peace, according to reports.

The amnesty provision can be used once during the duration of the collective bargaining agreement, and allows World Peace's salary to not count against their books, although he is still owed the money.

While injured star Kobe Bryant has implored the Lakers to keep the mercurial forward, World Peace's tweeting seems to indicate he believes he's gone. In a series of bizarre tweets, he made a strange analogy linking his being amnestied to a burger chain eliminating items from their menu. His tweets go like this:

"I just got the news ... I'm so sad!!!"

"My news is that My favorite burger spot called "My Favorite Burger" added extra gratuity cost to the vegan burgers.. Worst day ever"

"And then "My Favorite Burger" took away the whole grain buns. These losers amnestied the buns.. Unreal man.."

"They waived the buns because the lettuce put them over the salary cap. I went into the restaurant furious. "No more whole grain buns. What!"

"Oh yea. Did I finish telling yal my marching chicken joke?"

In the last few years World Peace's play has declined significantly, and he is no longer the elite stopper he once was, nor does he score as efficiently as he did in the past. During the 2012-2013 season he averaged 12.4 points per game, the first time he averaged double-digit scoring since 2009. He needed 11 shots per game to do it, though, and shot 40 percent from the field.

If he is amnestied, rumor has it that the New York Knicks are interested in signing him. In college World Peace starred at St. John's, when he was known as Ron Artest.
