Cancer Suffering 12-Year-Old Ohio State Fan Grate Reed Names Disease 'Beat Michigan,' Now In Remission

A 12-year-old Ohio boy and diehard Ohio State fan named the brain tumor he suffers from “Beat Michigan” and doctors say his disease is now in remission.

Grant Reed was diagnosed with a brain tumor two years ago and doctors say he recently completed his last chemotherapy treatment.

"We've beaten Michigan,”Troy Reed, the boy’s elated father told local station NBC4. “There's a chance it can come back, but in the short term we beat Michigan."

Grant Reed will return to the hospital every three months for an MRI, but for the time being seems completely cancer free. During his treatments, he suffered some complications, which impacted his speech and mobility. But he’s already targeted those ailments as the condition he next plans to conquer.

"I want to recover. I want to talk faster, walk faster," he told NBC. While he was hospitalized, Reed received visits from several members of the Ohio State football family, including Coach Urban Meyer right around Christmas.

It went a long way in picking up his spirits. So much so, that on the day he was preparing to leave the hospital he and his brother donated two wagons for future patients at the hospital. Of course, the gifts came with a stipulation.

“It has to say ‘Beat Michigan’ on it,” smiled Troy.

Troy Reed and his wife, Denise, meet as members of the Ohio State University Marching Band.
