Notre Dame Quarterback Everett Golson Plans Spring Return Following Academic Suspension

Suspended Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson, who led the team to the BCS Championship Game last season, insists he plans to return to the school next spring.

Golson, a sophomore, was suspended for the fall semester for “poor academic judgment,” according to a statement released by school officials last spring.

“I will be returning in the spring, that's pretty much it,” Golson told Myrtle Beach, S.C. TV station WPDE. “I've been working out, keeping my head up. I've had a little adversity, but I've learned you can't sit down and just take that -- you got to pick yourself back up and keep going forward and continue doing what you were doing and everything is going to work itself out in the end.”

Starting with the 2014 season, Golson will have two years of eligibility remaining upon his planned return. Meanwhile, Coach Brian Kelly has named Tommy Rees the team’s starter. Andrew Hendrix and Malik Zaire are the other two quarterbacks on the roster.

In his lone season in South Bend, Golson completed 59 percent of his passes for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed for 305 yards and five scores.

In the BCS title game against Alabama, he passed for 270 yards, passing and running for Notre Dame’s lone two scores in their 42-14 loss.
