It was revealed over the weekend that AJ Lee has retired from in-ring competition in the WWE and it appears the three-time Divas Champion didn't inform officials before WrestleMania 31 of her decision to leave.
Lee teamed up with Paige last Sunday at WrestleMania 31 live from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. and she won the match for her team against the Bella twins after making Nikki Bella tap out.
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, it is believed that Lee didn't inform officials of her impending departure prior to the biggest show of the year.
It is likely Lee didn't tell them because the WWE would have probably opted to make her lose if the company was aware she was retiring soon after the event.
Lee had one final triumphant moment before bowing out of the WWE, but things likely would have been booked differently had the company known she was leaving.
Lee is married to CM Punk, who walked out on the company in January 2014 and later cited on his friend Colt Cabana's podcast that he was frustrated over the way he was used and with WWE doctor Chris Amann "misdiagnosing" him on multiple occasions.
Punk laid into the WWE and Amann in the episode and the doctor swiftly countered with a lawsuit against him and Cabana.
Lee got engaged to Punk sometime following his departure from the company and she remained an active competitor in the WWE while the "Best in the World" was on the sidelines and enjoying his free time.
Lee took a hiatus after WrestleMania XXX to move in with Punk in Chicago and the two tied the knot in June, with Punk revealing on the podcast that he received his termination papers from the WWE on that same day.
Punk announced last December that he has joined UFC and he had Lee by his side when he revealed it to the world. Punk is set to debut in the Octagon sometime later this year against an opponent that is to be determined.
Lee is now done with the WWE, but she left a great impact in the realm of professional wrestling.
