Oklahoma City Thunder star forward Kevin Durant is engaged to WNBA player Monica Wright, according to Sports Illustrated.
According to The Oklahoman, the high-scoring Durant proposed sometime Saturday night, just before Wright went out and netted a season-high 17 points in leading Minnesota over Phoenix 91-59.
Durant and Wright have known each other since meeting at the McDonald’s High School All-American game in 2006. SI reports the two began dating several months ago.
It’s been a busy summer for the 24-year-old Durant, who just last month severed ties with former agent Rob Pelinka and Landmark Sports to join forces with rap star Jay-Z and his upstart Roc Nation Sports firm.
Durant already has endorsement deals with Sprint, Gatorade, Nike and Degree and reportedly is hoping his alliance with Jay-Z will open doors for him in the music business. SI ranked him No. 12 on its Fortunate 50 list of the highest-earning athletes in 2013 with earnings of $27 million. Back in 2010, he inked a five-year extension with the Thunder for $89 million.
Wright, also 24, is in her fourth season with Lynx, averaging 9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists. After a stellar, four-year career at Virginia, Minnesota selected her with the second-pick in the 2010 draft.
