CM Punk is no stranger to walking out on the WWE and he reacted to his wife AJ Lee following in his footsteps by retiring from the No. 1 wrestling promotion in the world.

"The Best in the World" took to Twitter to thank his wife following her retirement from in-ring competiton in the WWE:

The WWE announced on Friday that Lee is done with the company in a tweet.

"BREAKING: AJ Lee (April Mendez) has decided to retire from in-ring competition in the WWE," the company wrote on Twitter. "We wish AJ the very best."

Punk walked out on the WWE back in January of 2014 and he and Lee got engaged about a year ago as Lee remained an active part of the WWE and Punk stayed away from the company.

The former WWE Champion walked out due to frustration with the way the WWE was using him and due to the fact that he felt he was misdiagnosed by WWE doctor Chris Amann.

Punk stayed mostly silent after leaving until he broke his silence in November on his friend Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast in which he blasted the WWE and Dr. Amann.

Dr. Amann responded swiftly with a lawsuit against Punk and Cabana, which likely put Lee in an awkward position.

Lee appeared at WrestleMania 31 last Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. and her and Paige defeated The Bella Twins in tag action after Lee made Nikki Bella tap out to the Black Widow.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, there is a belief that Lee could have known that WrestleMania would be her last appearance based on the way she celebrated with Paige following the match, seeming like it was a last hurrah.

Lee is gone from the WWE, but she left an impact as a three-time Divas Champion.
