Manny Pacquiao fans may want to avert their eyes from the next sentence. Reports out of Pacquiao's camp are indicating he is battling his infamous calf cramps again, which hampered him in his controversial 2012 loss to Timothy Bradley. The cramps forced Pacquiao to miss a roadwork session over the weekend, although his strength and conditioning coach attempted to downplay the severity earlier this week.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. said that he's ignoring any reports about Pacquiao's calves, and is preparing as if he'll be facing the best version of Pacman on May 2.
Pacquiao Skips Roadwork Because Of Calf Cramps
"That's not really my focus," Mayweather said of Pacquiao's cramps. "My focus is to go out there and entertain, and win, and look good doing it.
"I know he's no pushover and I'm not pushover. When you're at the pinnacle of the sport, everyone is gunning for you. He's a solid competitor. I don't try to focus on his weakness at all. My focus is to focus on what he does good, and he's a hell of a fighter."
Those comments run counter to what Floyd Mayweather Sr. said about approaching a potentially weakened Pacquiao. Mayweather Sr. will be serving as Mayweather Jr.'s cornerman during the fight.
Mayweather Sr. said that injured calves would limit Pacquiao's mobility and allow Mayweather Jr. to put himself in attack mode.
"To me, that would be Floyd put pressure on him, back him up, back him up on his legs," Mayweather Sr. said. "It's going to be good because he ain't going to be able to jump all night like that.
"He might be able to do it for two or three rounds, but if his legs are really hurting him -- I mean, he can get his legs back well before the fight, but in a good, tough fight, the (pain) will probably come back. It'll probably come back to him."
An aggressive Mayweather hasn't been seen in some time, as his last knockout came in 2011 against Victor Ortiz, who wasn't defending himself when he was hit. Prior to that, Mayweather's last knockout was his spectacular win over Ricky Hatton in 2009.
