Aaron Hernandez, the ex-New England Patriots star tight end who stands accused of orchestrating the murder of Odin Lloyd, and pulling the trigger in his shooting death, will be back in court again today at 9:00 a.m. Follow Day 39 of the court proceedings free here.

The defense called New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Hernandez’s former employer, to the witness stand on Wednesday. Shortly after Hernandez became a suspect in Lloyd’s murder, Kraft said he wanted to have a conversation with his star tight end about the matter.

"I understood there was an incident that had transpired, and I wanted to know whether he was involved, and if he was -- any player that comes into our system, I consider part of our extended family, and I wanted to get him help," Kraft said.

"He said he was not involved. That he was innocent and that he hoped that the time of the murder incident came out because he said he was in a club."

Kraft was among several high-profile potential witnesses for the prosecution, but former coach Bill Belichick and former teammates in college and the pros Maurkice and Mike Pouncey are unlikely to be called to testify. The prosectutors are planning to rest their case on Thursday, and the defense isn’t expected to go for very long.

In fact, Yahoo! Sports is speculating that Hernandez’s defense team isn’t going to defend him much at all. Rather, their plan could be to highlight holes in the prosecution’s case, such as a lack of motive and a lack of murder weapon, and argue that they haven’t met the burden of proof of “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
