The 26-year-old Nick Foles may not be the St. Louis Rams' future at quarterback.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Rams coach Jeff Fisher revealed his team still is in the market for a quarterback at the NFL draft, despite sending former No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford to the Philadelphia Eagles for Foles.

"It's our intention to draft one," Fisher said. "The Nick [Foles] trade has no bearing over what we do in the draft."

The news is somewhat surprising, considering the fact that most draft experts believe that the top two quarterbacks in the draft - Florida State's Jameis Winston and Oregon's Marcus Mariota - both will be gone before the Rams' No. 10 pick and that those same experts think a huge drop-off in talent exists in the quarterback class beyond Winston and Mariota.

Fisher doesn't necessarily agree.

"I think it's highly unlikely that either [Winston or Mariota] gets to us. They're both very talented players," Fisher said. "There's some outstanding players once you get beyond [the two quarterbacks]. We're just starting the process. My understanding based on our first-wave draft meetings is that there's some young quarterbacks that can play."

The Rams have a workout scheduled with Baylor's Bryce Petty.

"Good combine," Fisher said of Petty. "Got a very strong arm. Good athlete. You don't see him do things that we're gonna ask him to do, so I think you have to see him actually work out, private workout, things like that."

At the very least, Foles presence theoretically means that whomever the Rams draft likely will get a chance to watch from the sidelines next season to absorb and learn from the former Arizona Wildcats QB.

The Rams originally said they had planned to bring in a quarterback - veteran or rookie - to compete with Bradford, so the fact that the incoming rookie will match up against Foles shouldn't come as much of surprise.

But it appears as if Foles has some selling to do to convince the Rams he is their long-term answer at quarterback.
