Michael Sam will go down in history as the first openly gay player in NFL history, but if the former St. Louis Rams DE/OLB is to be believed, there are many more in the closet through the league right now.

Michael Sam's Veteran Combine Performance Falls Flat With Scouts

Sam spoke to the media in Dallas on Thursday following his (rather lackluster) performance at the NFL combine last week, and he said that there are "some famous people" in football who have yet to find the time to come out.

"I am not the only gay person in the NFL. I'm just saying there is a lot of us," Sam said, via TMZ Sports.

"[They] had the courage to tell me that they were also gay, but they do not have the same courage as I do to come out before I even played a down in the NFL."

"The players who have reached out to me and told me about their sexual orientation, it just means a lot," Sam continued. "But I will never say anything about who they are, what teams they're [on]. I'm just saying there's some famous people, and I'm not the only one."
