Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M.Hodgson plans to thwart any plans Aaron Hernandez might have of marrying his fiancée and the mother of his 7-month old daughter as long as he is being held at the Bristol County jail.
According to USA Today, speculation is growing Hernandez may soon seek to wed Shayanna Jenkins, perhaps in an effort to shield her from being eligible to testify against him at trial. Whatever his motivation might be, Hodgson is adamant it won’t happen on his watch.
"I don't subscribe to that,” he told USA Today. “I feel that those rights are things that you access on the outside, if you're a good citizen. We'll do everything we can to not have that happen."
Hernandez is being held without bail after he pled not guilty late last month to a first-degree murder charge in connection with the execution-style slaying of Odin Lloyd. In laying out the state’s case against Hernandez last week, investigators told the judge initially Jenkins had been cooperating with them before receiving a call from Hernandez, during which they believe she was told to keep quiet.
Hernandez is being held in solitary confinement and is allowed out of his 7-by-10-square-foot cell just three hours per day. During both his arraignment and bail hearing, lawyers for Hernandez argued their client should be treated just as any of the other roughly 1,400 prisoners held at the facility.
Hodgson told the newspaper in a week Hernandez’s status will be reviewed once more and there is a chance he might then be moved into general population.
