Maybe anybody the Lakers add this summer in free agency is a good choice for them. The team is widely known to be interested in Rajon Rondo, and they are expected to work hard to add the star point guard in free agency unless he signs an extension with the Mavericks.

There is some debate over whether Rondo is the smartest choice of players for the Lakers to add (the team likely will only have the cap room to add one big-name player), but the team is so bereft of talent that they may need to take all the help they can get. This comes on the heels of the news that, despite having playing in only 35 games, Kobe Bryant still leads the team in field goal attempts this season.

Although he will not end the season as the team leader (Carlos Boozer will pass him in the next game or two), the fact that he has played in only half of the team's games and still leads the team at all is astonishing.

Rajon Rondo Not The Only Mavs Player Leaving Town This Summer?

The Lakers are cruising for a top-five lottery pick, and that, combined with the return of last year's first-round pick Julius Randle and the addition of a star player in free agency should make the team much better next year. And although he does not have the scoring chops to lead a team in points per game, Rondo should still make a big difference in the Lakers' offense by creating good looks for other players.

Soon, free agency will be all that Lakers fans have to look forward to, but given how the team has played this season, not having to endure their games may actually be a blessing.
