Hope Solo is on a quest for penance after a string of bad behavioral episodes that left her nearly facing jail time, and suspended from the US women's national soccer team.

Hope Solo Apologizes For Her Past Mistakes On Good Morning America

First Solo appeared with Robin Roberts on ABC's Good Morning America, where the goalkeeper shed tears recounting how regretful she was about the drunk driving and domestic assault incidents that cast a black mark on her otherwise sterling on-field play.

According to TMZ Sports, the 33-year-old says that she has recently begun seeking therapy to deal with pain and anger issues.

Hope Solo's 30 Day Suspension is Lifted

"I’d been a mess emotionally and mentally, and spent most nights crying with my roommate away from the team," Hope said.

"I told [my teammates] that for the first time in my life, I’d been seeing a therapist and dealing with a lot of my issues, and finally addressing all the pain and anger that was inside of me. Twice a week, I also worked with an Eastern medicine healer in Seattle who had incredible experience helping some of the greatest athletes perform at the highest levels. He really helped me see things in a different light."

Solo will be with Team USA this summer when it travels to Canada for the women's World Cup, but she also has longer range goals on her mind.

"Ultimately, I wanted to be a better person and teammate, and that’s what I’d been focused on," she concludes.

We wish her luck in that endeavor.
