We've all gone through our fair share of bad break-ups. Or, well, most of us have -- and if you haven't, consider yourself lucky. The only difference with tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki, though, is that she's had to endure the end of a relationship in front of a million anonymous on-lookers.

Wozniacki Says Serena Williams Helped Her Cope With Her Break-Ups

Wozniacki was famously dumped by PGA golfer Rory McIlroy last summer on the cusp of their wedding day, and that incident has traveled with her in the public eye ever since.

Wozniacki has remained relatively mum on how the split affected her and her tennis game, only making occasional references to it in interviews and social media intermittently.

Until now. On Wednesday Wozniacki gave a lengthy interview with The Independent where she opened up on this personal issue in a really big way.

"You just see your world turned around, literally from one second to the next," she said, of the separation. "I think I didn’t know how strong I was until that happened. And I didn’t know how much you can actually take. It really feels like someone close to you has died. You have to go through all of that."

However, the 24-year-old ultimately found a silver lining in it all.

"I think that taught me so much. I think I grew up so much in that short amount of time. I also realized who is always there for me and who is just there when things are good.”
