Aaron Hernandez Being Held In Medical Ward, Confined To Cell 23 Hours A Day

Former New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez is being held in the medical wing of the Bristol County (Mass.) House of Corrections amid jail officials' fears that other inmates may seek to harm him

According to TMZ, Hernandez has been held in that area of the jail since being arrested on first-degree murder and at least five other gun charges late last week. The website reported jail officials are concerned his celebrity status may make him a constant target of other inmates.

TMZ also reported jail authorities are now debating whether to keep him there, where he is confined to his cell 23 hours a day, or allow him to reside in general population.

Hernandez is charged in the execution style slaying of associate Odin Lloyd. The 27-year-old semi-pro football player’s bullet-riddled body was found less than a mile from Hernandez’s North Attleborough home earlier this month.

Sources have told police Hernandez may have been angry at Lloyd for “mouthing off” over other violent acts he’s alleged to have been involved in. Massachusetts police confirm they are also now investigating the 23-year-old former star in connection with a 2012 double-homicide.

In addition, another man has sued Hernandez charging he shot him in the face causing him to lose the use of his right eye and be subjected to several reconstructive surgeries.
