Sheamus may very well leave WrestleMania 31 with some gold.

Countdown to WrestleMania 31: 3 Best Moments From WrestleMania 21

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, there is a rumor going around that the "Celtic Warrior" may make his return to the WWE at WrestleMania 31 by being a surprise entrant in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match.

Bad News Barrett is set to defend his title against Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, Stardust, Luke Harper and R-Truth in the bout, but there is some speculation that Sheamus may be a last-minute addition to the contest.

3 Best WrestleMania Moments For Sheamus

The WWE expects Sheamus to get a babyface reaction, but will likely somehow have him act like a heel and turn him during the match. The reported ending would see Sheamus cost Bryan the match in some under-handed fashion to win the title and complete his turn to a villain.

This would lead to a feud between Bryan and Sheamus, that will likely be highlighted on SmackDown as Bryan has been utilized to build the Blue Brand up recently since it moved to Thursdays.

It should be noted that this is merely a rumor, but there does seem to be some growing interest behind the scenes in the WWE to make the secondary titles seem important again.

It is possible the WWE hasn't completed booking the card yet for WrestleMania 31 on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. as there have been rumors that Sheamus' return will happen in the 2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and things are up in the air.

There was another rumor going around earlier this week that Bryan would win the Intercontinental Championship and John Cena would defeat Rusev to win the United States Championship to bring a sense of importance to those respective belts.

It would also free the WWE up to have Brock Lesnar retain against Roman Reigns -- should they be able to re-sign him and choose to go that route -- and still utilize the secondary belts to headline shows based on the popularity of the title-holders.

It is also possible that Reigns will still defeat Lesnar in the main event and the WWE will still opt to have Bryan and Cena win the gold.

Sheamus has been out since November as he underwent surgery, but he is expected to return to action at WrestleMania and even though he left as a babyface and was beaten down by Rusev and Mark Henry, it appears he's earmarked for a heel turn.

Anything can happen at WrestleMania 31, and it seems like Sheamus will be a big part of the proceedings no matter what his role is.
