One of the major storylines in the NFL since the beginning of the 2014 season has been what the future holds for Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. He dealt with a suspension and reinstatement, missed the entire year, and rumors and speculation about an imminent trade or release have been swirling for months.

Could Adrian Peterson Rebuild His Image In Dallas?

Peterson has made it clear that he does not want to play for the Vikings, but the team has been (so far) unable to work out a trade involving the former MVP. Many thought that this would eventually lead to Peterson's release, but that may not be the case, according to ESPN.

On Wednesday, the team informed Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, that they have no plans whatsoever to release him.

"It was important for me to relay the position the Vikings are taking to Adrian," Dogra said. "I want to make sure there is absolutely no confusion whatsoever."

Dallas Planning To Draft A Running Back Instead Of Trading For AP?

Peterson has had multiple meetings with the team, but so far, they have done little to assuage his concerns about returning to play for the franchise.

The Dallas Cowboys have been named as a popular pick to land the star running back if he was released or traded. However, the team reached a one-year deal with star pass rusher Greg Hardy on Wednesday that eats into much of their available cap room, which makes it very unlikely that they could absorb Peterson's massive salary in a trade.

Dallas was the last real suitor that loomed as a potential trade destination, so if the team is actually refusing to release Peterson, then the two sides may have to suffer through an awkward, unhappy marriage until a new arrangement can be worked out.
