The Dallas Cowboys have already seen their star running back leave for a division rival in free agency, and they have also had to watch other players walk away due to their limited cap space. One player that the team maintains they will not lose is star wide receiver Dez Bryant.

NFL Forcing Jameis Winston To Skip Draft?

Currently, Dallas has used their franchise tag on Dez Bryant, but that only keeps him with the team for the 2015 season. They are adamant about signing Bryant to a long-term deal, and they have until July 15 to do so. However, according to the Dallas Morning News, the team may have a deal in place with Bryant well before that deadline.

Because of their cap situation, getting a Bryant deal done sooner rather than later could help them fill out the back end of the roster in free agency without having to restructure any other contracts (which is part of Dallas's plan for fiscal responsibility moving forward).

If that is the team's plan, then the two sides may reach an agreement in the coming days or weeks, well ahead of the NFL draft. Regardless, look for the team to do everything they can to get a deal done by the July deadline, as another stellar season from Bryant would give him basically all of the leverage in a negotiation with the team.

Jerry Jones understands the situation quite well, according to columnist Rick Gosselin, and he will not allow the team to lose its two best non-quarterback players in quick succession.

"The Cowboys didn't let Murray go with the understanding they could Bryant as well," writes Gosselin. "The Cowboys will get Bryant done. Jerry Jones isn't going to lose this one."
