The signing of Reggie Bush has San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick jumping for joy.

And then throwing down a wicked dunk.

Signing of Reggie Bush provides direct help to embattled 49ers quarterback?

CBSSports.com is one of multiple media outlets to post a video from Kaepernick's Instagram account of the muscular quarterback completing an acrobatic dunk at the EXOS training facility in Phoenix. Kaepernick has been there for more than a month working on his pocket-passing skills with former two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner and quarterbacks guru Dennis Gile.

Colin Kaepernick's new role as face of the franchise could be tricky for 49ers

CBSSports.com is one of multiple media outlets to post a video from Kaepernick’s Instagram account of the muscular quarterback completing an acrobatic dunk at the EXOS training facility in Phoenix. Kaepernick has been there for more than a month working on his pocket-passing skills with former two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner and quarterbacks guru Dennis Gile.

During some free time, Kaepernick hit the basketball court, threw a ball in the air, caught it in mid-air after a bounce and completed a 180-degree move, slamming with his right hand.

Whether Kaepernick’s video was a response to the display New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. put on the same court is unclear, although CBSSports.com reported that Kaepernick tagged the Giants’ emerging threat on his post, with the supposition that Beckham would watch the video.

Over the weekend, the 49ers signed free agent running back Reggie Bush, whose 40 receptions during an injury-plagued 2014 with the Detroit Lions almost matched the combined receptions of the 49ers backfield.
Bush gives Kaepernick a true safety valve with his ability to catch balls out of the backfield and make something happen after the catch. Before Bush’s arrival, the 49ers signed deep threat Torrey Smith in hopes of loosening up opposing defenses against underneath routes.

So now, Kaepernick has options besides a) getting sacked or b) throwing errant passes under duress. The 49ers are hoping a healthy Reggie Bush gives Kaepernick both confidence and a threat for a big gain every time he touches the ball in space.

The franchise recently denied reports that they were entertaining offers for Kaepernick in a trade. The 49ers can cut him before April 1 and not owe him any more money from his seven-year, $126 million contract.

But if Kaepernick returns to playing football and looks the way he did during his dunk on the basketball court, then the 49ers happily will play him the remainder of his contract.
