Last week potentially damning evidence was shown to a jury convened to determine whether or not Hernandez orchestrated the shooting death of his friend Lloyd. Minutes after Lloyd was killed in an industrial park, Hernandez and two suspected accomplices, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, are seen pulling into Hernandez’s North Attleborough driveway.
On Hernandez’s own home surveillance footage he can be seen walking in his house and into his basement with what appears to be a .45 caliber Glock in his hand. The defense is saying that it isn’t clear what’s in his hand, and that an iPad might be being mistaken for a firearm.
A Glock sales manager named Kyle Aspinwall testified to the contrary. "In my opinion, the firearm shown in the video stills is a Glock pistol,” Aspinwall said.
SI.com analyst Michael McCann believes both sides have handled the new footage well. It was powerful for the prosecution to have time stamped video of Hernandez possibly holding the murder weapon minutes after workers in the park heard noises like fireworks.
McCann also believes that Hernandez’s attorneys did well to shroud the footage in doubt and raise issues.
"The jury might think that the defense is just throwing things against the wall," McCann said. "But on the other hand, the jury may feel like it could be one of a dozen things. That's reasonable doubt."
