Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has been jailed in Los Angeles for possession of illegal fireworks.
According to TMZ, Arenas was pulled over by California Highway Patrol around 2:30 a.m. for speeding on a Ford pickup. During the search, officers immediately noticed that the truck was filled fireworks sitting in the bed and cab of the truck.
In addition to the illegal fireworks, Arenas was also charged with speeding and driving without a license. TMZ also reported the amount of fireworks in Arenas’ vehicle was thought to be over 100 pounds and so substantial the LAPD bomb squad was called to handle it.
As a member of the Washington Wizards, Arenas was infamously suspended for most of the 2009-10 season after taking out pistols in the team locker room over an ongoing gambling dispute with then teammate Javaris Crittenton.
A three-team All-Star over his 12-year NBA career, Arenas last played in the league for Memphis during the 2011-12 season. His best years came during back-to-back seasons in Washington beginning in 2005 when he was known as “Agent Zero” and averaged 29.3 and 28.4 points a game respectively.
He last played professionally for Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association during the 2012 season.
