Marcus Mariota, the Heisman-winning quarterback of the Oregon Ducks, is expected to be the second quarterback taken in the 2015 NFL Draft. Many mocks have him going No. 6 overall to the New York Jets. Others have speculated Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles will give up a ton to trade up into New York’s spot for him.

But what if the Tennessee Titans just pick him No. 2?

Tennessee’s given off signals that they’re passing on the quarterback position in this draft, content to roll with last year’s fifth-round pick out of LSU, Zach Mettenberger. He was competent last year, throwing eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in seven games, but was limited by injury.

Injury has been a constant concern for the young Mettenberger, which may be why the Titans are at least tossing around the idea of picking Mariota.

Mariota did not play in a traditional pro-style offense in college, but his 2014 production for the Ducks was off the charts. He threw 42 touchdown passes and only four interceptions, amassed 4,454 yards through the air, and complete 68.3 percent of his passes.

He was lethal on the ground as well, picking up 770 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. That’s 5,224 total yards and 57 touchdowns in a single season. Mettenberger never approached that level of production at LSU, even during his senior season.
