Antoine Walker Gunning For Boston Celtics Head Coaching Job

Former Boston Celtics forward Antoine Walker not only wants to return to the team, he is hoping to be calling all the shots once he gets there.

Walker took to Twitter late to let the Celtics and the entire world know he is interested in replacing longtime Coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers, who just left to assume the same position with the L.A. Clippers.

“Boston fans, I think it’s time for me to coach the Celtics,” Walker tweeted three times in one-minute intervals. Walker previously spent nearly eight seasons in Boston, his best coming in 2000-01 when he averaged 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

In all, Walker played 12 NBA seasons, winning a title as a member of the Miami Heat in 2006. Though he’s often being cast in the role of a team leader, Walker has never served in a coaching capacity.

Rivers officially left the Celtics in a deal with the Clips that netted them a 2015 first-round draft pick. With rebuilding efforts now clearly under way, Boston has yet to determine what it plans to do with veteran mainstays Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

Whoever takes over on the sidelines for the Celtics will be forced to do so with a limited core of Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Jeff Green and Jared Sullinger.
