Randall Cobb was a major factor in Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ 2014 MVP campaign, but his breakout season may mean a ticket out of town. According to reports, the Packers are not enthused about potentially shelling out $10 million a year for him.
League source says #Packers balked at paying Randall Cobb contract averaging $10-mil per season. He'll hit free agency. #Raiders will pay.

After the Dallas Cowboys franchise tagged Dez Bryant, and the Denver Broncos did the same with Demaryius Thomas, Cobb became the top free agent available on the market. Rumor has it that if Green Bay is worried about the price tag, the Oakland Raiders will swoop in and pay up to get second-year quarterback Derek Carr a No. 1 receiver.
The Raiders are strongly considering a blockbuster offer for him, and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reported that Cobb is seeking $12 million a season. 2014 was the first time Cobb appeared in all 16 of Green Bay’s games, and he had a career year with 91 catches, 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Raiders’ leading receiver last year was former Packers wideout James Jones, who hauled in 73 passes for 666 yards and six touchdowns. The No. 2 player in terms of receptions was tight end Mychal Rivera, who had just 534 yards and four scores.
Despite Cobb’s talent and 2014 production, there is some risk in giving him a huge contract because he has never carried the burden of being a No. 1 receiver. Last season he had Jordy Nelson sharing the load, and Nelson finished with 98 catches, 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns.
