LeBron James Sneaker Shooting: Man Killed Trying To Rob Crowd Gathered To Buy X Denims

Georgia police are still seeking to identify a man who was shot and killed while trying to rob several people gathered to purchase LeBron James' newly released sneakers.

According to NBC’s Atlanta affiliate WXIA, after being approached by the man early Saturday morning, one of his purported victims pulled out a gun and shot the would-be robber. The group, along with a line of others, had gathered to buy the LeBron X Denim sneakers that retail for $180.

No charges have been filed against the shooter and NBC reported, thus far, police find his self-defense claims to be credible. The station also reports authorities insist the man had an appropriate permit to carry the weapon.

Just days before, James won his second straight NBA title when he led the Miami Heat past the San Antonio Spurs in a virtuoso Game 7 performance. The two-time Finals MVP netted 37 points and 11 rebounds in sparking the Heat.

According to Forbes Magazine, other than the Jordan brand at $2 billion in annual sales, James' sneakers, also manufactured by Nike, are the world’s most popular with yearly receipts of $300 million.

Overall, Nike dominates the market, with three of the top signature sneakers made by the Beaverton, Ore. based conglomerate. Behind James, Kobe Bryant ($50 million, Nike), Carmelo Anthony ($40 million, Jordan), Kevin Durant ($35 million, Nike) and Derrick Rose ($25 million, Adidas), round out the top 5 current players in signature sales
