Lauren Hill was named to the first team of the Heartland Athletic Conference on Wednesday, after a season in which she inspired a nation.
Lauren Hill Praised By Congressman on Capitol Hill
Hill fulfilled her lifelong goal of being a college basketball player, despite battling the death sentence of an inoperable brain tumor. Hill eventually played in four games for the Lions, scoring five baskets in total.
Hill's condition worsened to the point that she eventually had to retire from playing in mid-December. Upon announcing her retirement, Mt. St. Joseph named her an honorary coach.

Hill entered hospice care and was expected to not live to see 2015. Now it's March and she's still going as strong as she can, continuing to be a hero to us all.
“This award is being presented to Lauren in recognition of her courage and outstanding leadership,” the Heartland Athletic Conference's commissioner, Chris Ragsdale, said in a statement. “Lauren has been a tremendous inspiration and role model for all student-athletes across the country. She has shown through her leadership and dedication how one individual can truly make a difference.”
