Miami Celebrates Tittle, Plots For Next Season With Greg Oden Talks

All the celebrating over the Miami Heat’s most recent title hasn’t even ended and already the two-time defending champs are plotting for the next one.

According to Sports Illustrated, the Heat have already reached out to former No. 1 pick Greg Oden, and the oft-injured center and his camp appear mutually interested.

In the end the perimeter tandem of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade proved too much for the Heat’s competitors, but Miami’s undersized frontline struggled mightily against big, physical teams like San Antonio and Indiana.

Portland tabbed Oden with the top-pick in 2007 draft, but he has been out of the league since 2009 due to lingering knee issues. Oden’s agent, Mike Conley, told SI he plans to speak with Heat president Pat Riley soon after free agency begins on July 1.

“The Heat need some size, that’s not a secret,” Conley told SI. “Whether it’s in a backup role or whatever, he could help them. I know they’re interested in him and he’s interested in them.”

Just last month, reports surfaced Oden was back to vigorously working out and was quickly regaining some of his old form. The Heat plans also calls for the tam to resign reserve forward Chris Andersen.
