The University of Central Florida's New 'Operation Blacktop' Basketball Floor Is a Success Before It Has Been Installed

It worked for the Boise State football team, why not the Central Florida basketball team?

The University of Central Florida is installing a predominantly black-painted wooden floor, USA Today reported Saturday night. Central Florida women's assistant basketball coach Courtney Locke first tweeted a photo of what the court will look like on Friday.

The floor is black, except the UCF logo at center court and the natural wood surface from the 3-point line to outside the free-throw lane.

The Central Florida athletic department website is making such a big deal of it that it has a story and photo gallery of the floor arriving at CFE Arena.

According to the website, "UCF's new basketball court arrived on campus Friday with the fanfare that is usually reserved for former Presidents and other dignitaries. Accompanied by a UCF police escort and a special-detailed UPS flame truck, the new court was delivered to CFE Arena."

The transportation of the floor from Rossville, Ga., to Orlando, Fla., took 11 hours and the new floor is expected to be in place by Monday morning, the website noted.

The Knights are joining the American Athletic Conference in the fall (the conference from which the Big East catholic schools seceded) and are looking to make a splash in their debut there.

The Central Florida court is an extension of a court George Washington University has installed. UConn has revamped its floor at Gampel Pavilion as it makes its way to the American Athletic Conference as well.

Reporter Tyler Moorehead of CollegeSpun.com is one of several people to give the UCF floor a thumbs-up rating.

I have to say, I think it is absolutely awesome - being able to call it 'The Blacktop' makes it even better," he said. "A cool nickname, a crazy floor - I have to think that the fans and players will love it."
