New England Patriots All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent his most recent surgery on Tuesday, with multiple outlets reporting that the procedure 'went well.' The office of Dr. Robert Watkins in Marina Del Rey, Calif., released an official statement following the procedure.

"New England Patriots' tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent a microscopic lumbar discectomy surgery performed by Dr. Robert Watkins at Marina Del Rey Hospital in Los Angeles. The surgery went well. The timing of his return to football will depend on his progression through the rehabilitation program."

NFL.com's Albert Breer was the first to report that Gronkowski would undergo his most recent surgery late last month. He also added that Gronkowski was likely to miss training camp, despite a source telling his colleague Ian Rapoport, that the former Pro Bowler "could be ready for the season."

Rapoport reported Wednesday that Gronkowski will begin the preseasonon this physically unable to perform list, according to sources close to the Patriots. However, it is not determined whether he will be placed on the list to begin the regular season.

USA Today Sports had reported that the team is optimistic about Gronkowski being healthy enough to attempt a possible return before the end of preseason.

While attending the University of Arizona, Gronkowski underwent a microdiscectomy procedure on a different disc in his back. He is expected to begin his rehab on both his back and injured left arm, which he also had surgery on last month.
