Tiger Woods will miss the AT&T National next week due to a sore elbow. Woods plans to be out of action until the British Open, according to ESPN.

The world's No. 1 said on his website that he went to have his left elbow examined after returning home from the U.S. Open at Merion. Woods claimed that doctors found a strain to his left elbow and told him to take some time off for rest and treatment.

Woods is the defending AT&T National champion, a tournament which donates to his foundation. The British Open at Muirfield will take place on July 18-21.

Woods seemed affected by the injury during the U.S. Open last week. He shot 13-over-par for the tournament and a 73-70-76-74 in each round. Woods finished 32nd overall and earned $47,246.

2013 has been much more positive otherwise for Woods as he finally regained his world's No. 1 ranking. Since January, Woods has four tournament wins including the Farmers Insurance Open, the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard and, most recently, The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Since joining the PGA Tour in 1996, Woods has 78 tour wins (2nd all-time) and 14 major championships. Woods' most recent major victory came at the U.S. Open in 2008.

Woods was the PGA player of the year 10 times. He was also the 1996 PGA rookie of the year.
