Several NBA teams have been biding their time, waiting for sharpshooting guard Ray Allen to declare that he will return.

That time may have been wasted.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that a belief is growing within the league that the 19-year NBA veteran will stay retired.

Neither Allen nor his agent, Jim Tanner, has indicated that he intends to play in 2014-15, sources told the site.

"Allen has been working out, but nothing to the level that would indicate an imminent return to get into NBA playing shape," Yahoo! Sports reports. "Still, there's time for Allen to make a decision, but as one general manager said Friday, 'It's getting late in the game for this to happen.'"

Allen has been part of championship teams with the Boston Celtics (2007-08) and Miami Heat (2012-13). He averaged 18.9 points per game during his NBA career, although that average dipped to 10.3 points per game in his last two seasons with the Heat.

His most productive years in the NBA came with the Seattle SuperSonics from 2002-03 to 2006-07, in which he averaged 24.6 points per game. He is also one of the greatest free-throw shooters of all time with an 89.4 percent career average.

Yahoo! Sports added that the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James were presumed to be the front-runners for the man who played "Jesus Shuttlesworth" in the movie He Got Game with Denzel Washington. But early in the NBA season, teams received news that Allen would be open to opportunities anywhere if he decided to return.

Most of the teams that had been interested earlier in the year, now have "lost eagerness" in asking Allen's agent whether a return is imminent.
