Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera got what was described as "very positive news" from a CT scan on his surgically repaired right foot as he looks for a return to the diamond on or close to Opening Day.

According to MLB.com, Cabrera has been cleared to begin running and limited baseball activity, which gave the team some hope that he will be ready to return close to the team's April 6 Opening Day matchup against the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park.
"It's very positive news," team president/general manager Dave Dombrowski said Wednesday, according to MLB.com. "We feel good about it. I spoke to Miguel just a short while ago about this. The news is good. You could see him out there next week hitting and throwing."

Cabrera had surgery to remove a bone spur in his right ankle in mid-October and there was also a stress fracture discovered during the operation.
When baseball activities begin next week, Cabrera will hit and throw, but he isn't cleared to begin fielding yet.
There is no official timeframe for Cabrera's return, but the team will see he responds to baseball activities and his running program to decide how cautious it needs to be.
"They really didn't give us a timeframe," Dombrowski said, "and they don't want to give a timeframe because they don't want to push him. They had said six months in the very beginning, and that's around the middle of April. I don't see any reason why that's not the approximate timeframe, around Opening Day, to be able to go full-bore."
Cabrera was said to be very happy with the news regarding the positive CT scan.
"He felt very positive about the news," Dombrowski said of Cabrera. "He's been feeling good. He continues to feel better and better all the time. The one thing with Miguel, as we see with the injuries he has, he wants to be in the lineup and play."
Cabrera is a two-time American League MVP, nine-time All-Star and won the World Series (2003) and Triple Crown (2012) once each.
Cabrera is coming off of a 2014 campaign where he ranked second in the MLB in doubles (52), third in RBI (109) and hits (191) and fourth in total bases (320).
Cabrera, 39, hit .313/.371/.524 last season with 25 homers in helping the Tigers to a 90-72 record and fourth straight AL Central Division crown.
