Aaron Hernandez, the ex-New England Patriots star tight end who stands accused of orchestrating the murder of Odin Lloyd, and pulling the trigger in his shooting death, will be back in court again today at 9:00 a.m. Follow the Day 9 of the court proceedings free here.
During Day 8, the jury was shown a video of Hernandez taking apart a cell phone after being taken to a police station shortly after Lloyd's body was found with a key to a car rented by Hernandez in his pocket.
After waiting for a period of time in an interview, Hernandez is said to have left and broken his cellphone. Prosecutors allege he then called Ernest Wallace, one of the co-defendants in the Lloyd murder.
"He's using one phone, either texting or calling, and the other one is on his lap, apart," detective Michael Elliott said.
Footprints at the scene, as well as a towel found in the industrial park were key points of testimony as well. North Attleborough Officer John Grim said he spotted footprints in the park, and a towel three to four feet away from them. Hernandez was seen on surveillance video earlier in the night with a towel around his neck.
Hernandez's defense lawyer James Sultan questioned Grim as to why he didn't alert another officer who was taking photographs about the footprints. I don't have an answer for that question, sir," Grim said. His report on the towel being three to four feet from the prints was also not entirely accurate, which didn't go unchallenged.
"Did anyone suggest to you that it would be helpful to the prosecution in this case if you testified that what you put in your report was wrong and that the real distance between the towel and the body was more than 3 to 4 feet?" Sultan asked.
Grim denied that anyone had.
