The Baltimore Orioles (40-30) and Detroit Tigers (38-29) will meet Monday night for the first game of their early week series at Comerica Park. The game will air live on Fox Detroit and will stream live on MLB.com with a paid subscription.

Mark Scherzer (9-0, 3.19 ERA) will get the nod for the Tigers. He enters after winning four of his last five starting appearances while recording a 2.00 ERA and fanning 38 over a span of 36 innings. He allowed two home runs in seven innings en route to capturing his ninth win of the season over the Royals on Tuesday.

Scherzer became the first Detroit starter to reach the 9-0 mark since Vern Kennedy did so in 1938. He has lost in only one appearance over the course of his last 27 starts, which dates back to three games in last year's postseason.

"Don't get me wrong -- I love being 9-0, but it's more important that we (win)," Scherzer said. "For me, it's all about going out there and pitching deep into the game and (being) effective. The way I look at success is how well I pitch (and not the amount of personal victories)."

Scherzer would have gotten his 10th win on Tuesday had his bullpen not allowed four runs in the ninth inning of a 7-5 loss to the Orioles on May 31.

The Orioles will hope their success continues when they send out Jake Arrieta (1-1) to match Scherzer. Arrieta currently holds a 6.63 ERA and is coming off a losing effort against the Dodgers in which he allowed five earned runs in four innings.
