Chad Johnson To Be Released From Jail Today

A Florida judge chastised Chad Johnson as “disrespectful” but ordered the former NFL star be released from custody by day’s end.

Johnson, 35, was sentenced to 30 days in jail last week after he appeared for a probation violation hearing and angered the judge by slapping his attorney’s rear end during the proceedings. TMZ reports attorneys for him had already negotiated a plea deal with prosecutors that would have resulted in no jail time, but an outraged Judge Katie McHugh refused to honor it and instead remanded him to custody.

According to TMZ, Johnson was brought to the courtroom wearing handcuffs and a prison issued jump suit. The website adds that from the very beginning the judge blasted him as disrespectful and too playful. As part of the terms of his release, she extended his probation by one month, or until mid-October of this year.

The judge also scolded Johnson for the attack on his ex-wife, reality TV star Evelyn Lozada, that landed him on probation to begin with. “What you did was horrific,” TMZ reported she said.

TMZ reports probations officials had first sought Johnson’s arrest after he failed to show for several scheduled meetings with his officers and had yet to show proof he had completed a court-ordered anger management course.
