Add Golf.com to the latest list of outlets tying Tiger Woods' present-day struggles to his sex scandal in 2009, but with a twist.

Unlike the other theories that gloss over Woods' return to No. 1 in 2013 with five tournament wins, Golf.com explains the aberration in the decomposition of his game.

Can Tiger Woods be trusted to know when his game is competitive again?

Those wins apparently were the result of muscle memory.

"Woods's five-win season in 2013 fooled us all," Golf.com surmised. "He appeared to be ramping up for another run at history, but now it looks increasingly like a last gasp, one final summoning of will and want from a proud champion."

The publication continued: "Even as Woods was prevailing on courses where he has so much institutional memory he still struggled at the major championships, the tournaments that mean everything to him and define his legacy. Those cracks in the façade continued to grow, to the point where now the entire edifice of his golf game has come crumbling down."

PGA Tour insiders say Tiger Woods needs to take a break from golf

It would seem that the Masters would fall into that "memory" category, but Woods simply may have been putting too much pressure on himself in the majors, which ultimately led to his destroyed confidence.

"His woes have nothing to do with swing mechanics or the 'release patterns' in his chipping," Golf.com reported. "It goes much deeper than that, to the metaphysical. More than five years have passed since Woods plowed into a fire hydrant and lost control of his carefully-curated public life. What followed was the biggest tabloid scandal in sports history and the worst public shaming of the Internet age, and yet many observers now underrate the effect it had on Woods. In seeking to understand the problems in his golf game, all roads lead back to the scandal and its aftermath."

The story continues: "The belief that Woods can regain his old confidence fails to recognize that he is no longer the same person."

Which is the reason why Woods has decided to work on his game in private and not let the whole world follow his struggles.
