Brian Banks News: School District Sues Woman Who Falsely Accused Him Of Rape

The California school district has sued the woman that falsely accused former student and football star Brian Banks of the rape charges that landed him in prison for several years.

According to ABC News, The Long Beach Unified School District is seeking nearly a total of nearly $2 million from Wanetta Gibson and told the network it definitely wants to get back some of the $750,000  it paid her in a settlement.

Banks was exonerated last year after Gibson finally told a private investigator the then Long Beach Poly Tech high school star never raped or kidnapped her as she had long ago alleged. “No, he did” she answered to both questions during a video captured recantation, ABC News reported.

Soon after, Banks, who had been awarded a football scholarship to USC, was exonerated. "Our school district takes seriously our obligation to be a good steward of public funds,” school officials said in a statement. “It's important to convey that our school board will take action to recoup any losses if someone attempts to defraud our schools of much-needed resources

Since being released, Banks has been recommitted to fulfilling his NFL dream. Last year, he earned a tryout with the Seattle Seahawks and just recently was signed by the Atlanta Falcons. In the past, he's said he's no longer concerned with Gibson and doesn't plan to sue her.
