Andre Iguodala Plans To Opt Out In Denver, Headed For Free Agency

Denver free agent forward Andre Iguodola plans to forego nearly $16 million in guaranteed salary and opt out of the final year of his contract to test the open market, Yahoo! Sports is reporting.

Iguodala averaged 13 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds last season as one of the main cogs in leading the Nuggets to the third-seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

Though less than thrilled by the most recent developments, Nuggets GM Josh Kroenke assured Yahoo! “Andre remains a huge priority for our organization.”

The move paves the way for the versatile Iguodala to either sign a new four-year deal elsewhere or an extension up to five years with the Nuggets. He also now has until June 25 to exercise the early termination clause on his contract.

Iguodala’s decision comes just days after the Nuggets fired veteran Coach George Karl, who led the team to 57 wins and the third playoff seed.

Iguodala, 29, figures to be the target of several teams, among them Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, Houston, Detroit and New Orleans. With Coach of the Year Karl and GM Masai Ujiri already having packed their bags, Iguodala’s career-changing decision was thought to have been made easier.
