A Mississippi bill that came bearing the name of former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has been denied in the state's Senate.

According to The Clarion Ledger, the act was designed to allow children who are homeschooled to still participate in their public school district's sports and extra-curricular activities.

The measure fell by a 31-17 vote.

Polls said their "nay" votes were a question of fairness. One senator presented a hypothetical example of a high school football player who would be kicked off the team for poor grades one day, only to rejoin the team as a homeschooled player the next.

You may be wondering why the bill was named after Tebow, given that the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner is not a native Missisippian. Turns out Tebow had used a similar Florida law to his advantage, becoming a sensation high school prospect despite never setting foot in a public high school.

Tebow himself probably isn't too broken up about the bills failure to pass into law. He and his foundation are busy organizing a nationwide Valentine's Day prom night for over 7,000 special needs children.
