Question marks still remain regarding the incident that left Robert Allenby bloodied and unconscious at a park, but new evidence surfaced on Thursday.

A police detective investigating the ordeal in Hawaii told ESPN that three people seen leaving a wine restaurant with him are not connected to the case and that Allenby did not go to a strip club the night of the incident.

"There is no evidence he was ever in that strip club," Lt. John McCarthy said in a phone interview. "Our investigation shows he was not at Club Femme Nu."

"It was a case of mistaken identity," he added when asked about the reports indicating Allenby was there.

The Australian golfer missed the cut at the Sony Open, prompting a night at the Amuse Wine Bar on Jan. 16. After leaving the restaurant, Allenby was allegedly beaten, robbed and thrown from the trunk of a car. Information from a homeless woman who helped him escape the park corroborated his story.

One homeless man, however, told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that Allenby injured himself—his injuries stemming from a collision with a rock.

On Thursday, Allenby released a statement expressing his gratitude to the Honolulu police.

"I want to thank the Honolulu Police Department for their on-going work in this investigation," he said. "As I have continually said, these detectives are the best at what they do and I was always confident they would discover what happened. I continue to fully cooperate with the HPD and I look forward to this matter being fully resolved."

"I also want to thank the many people who have expressed their support and concern for me in the last month."

Allenby returns to golf next week at the Northern Trust Open.
